我来完善Myspace是全球最大的社区交友网站，提供人际互动、使用者自定的朋友网路、个人档案页面、部落格、群组、照片、音乐和视讯影片的分享与存放。
MySpace 也提供内部的搜寻引擎和内部的电子邮件系统。在不到三年的时间里，MySpace成为全美访问量前五名的网站。2006年6月独立访问量4800万，页面浏览量274亿。也许它的盈利程度赶不上Google、eBay或Yahoo，但它很可能成为下一个互联网平台。
2004年，同在洛杉矶一家互联网营销公司工作的德沃尔夫（Chris Dewolfe）和安德森（Tom Anderson）一手创立了MySpace，当时两人想让MySpace成为比早期社交网站Friendster更随心所欲的社交网站。MySpace推出一年后，受到了美国大众的追捧。2005年7月，有意进军数字媒体行业的媒体大亨、新闻集团董事长默多克出资5.8亿美元收购了MySpace，当时有不少人大呼价格高得离谱。
根据研究机构ComScore的数据，默多克收购时，MySpace就已经拥有了大约2000万的月独立访问用户数，而目前大红大紫的Facebook当时只有不到其一半的用户数。
在新闻集团收购后，MySpace的用户数量继续快速攀升，2008年底是其巅峰时期，每月大约7500万名独立用户访问，市场估值一度达到650亿美元。但次年4月，Facebook用户数量开始超越MySpace，之后两者趋势呈反向发展，Facebook的用户数开始猛增，而Myspace则逐步衰减。
由于Myspace将自己定位为音乐型社交网站，不少当时知名歌手都选择在Myspace上与歌迷互动，第一时间发布新专辑信息。
值得一提的是，美国现任总统奥巴马与Facebook和MySpace均有渊源。2008年，奥巴马还在竞选美国总统时，就已在MySpace开设个人主页，营造声势，为自己拉票。直至现在，奥巴马也未舍弃MySpace，已在其主页上开始为自己的2012年总统连任造势。
就在Facebook崛起时，Myspace的好日子似乎到头了。随着用户的减少，不少广告商也开始放弃Myspace。研究机构Emarketer数据显示，MySpace广告收入在2008年达到了顶峰，接近6亿美元的年广告收入，时至2011年，Emarketer预计，今年MySpace的广告收入仅为1.84亿美元。
《华尔街日报》称，这笔交易对于新闻集团及其首席运营长凯里（Chase Carey）来说是一种解脱。有知情人士透露，凯里在2009年重返新闻集团后，对MySpace的危机一直感到不满，先是将重振网站当自己的工作重点，之后又把出售MySpace当成工作重点。
联合创始人德沃尔夫在接受《商业周刊》采访时将MySpace失败的矛头对准了来自广告收入的压力。
2006年，谷歌与MySpace签订了为期3年价值9亿美元的合作协议，谷歌成为MySpace的独家搜索引擎供应商，MySpace必须保证连续三年广告点击率的大幅增加，高额的回报成为MySpace的负担。
德沃尔夫也指责此举让公司偏离了健康发展途径，处于混乱状态。广告规模、质量和布置，成为MySpace与新闻集团一个冲突点。
此外，Myspace高管变动频繁也是外界认为其失败的原因之一。美国风投机构GRP合伙人马克·舒斯特（Mark Suster）认为，Facebook之所以能持续对MySpace构成威胁，是因为Facebook创始人马克·扎克伯格（Mark Zuckerberg）一直掌握着产品策略。
《洛杉矶时报》援引一名匿名的MySpace前高管的话称，新闻集团一直把MySpace当成摇钱树，而非一个真正的有发展潜力的公司。
事实上，MySpace曾尝试过多次“自救”，包括将自己定位成音乐、电影和其他娱乐的综合型娱乐社交网站。ComScore数据显示，MySpace并未被抛弃，每月仍有3500万的访问量，尽管Facebook已达到了1.57亿的访问量。
